Glasgow City Centre is a vibrant and friendly place, which really comes to life when the offices and businesses close and the sun goes down. The city attracts many thousands of people nightly to enjoy the facilities offered by its many pubs, nightclubs, discos, theatres, restaurants, concert venues and casinos. With more than 10 colleges and universities in and around the city centre, it has a thriving student scene.
Play Safe in Glasgow aims to help reduce alcohol related harm, violence and antisocial behaviour in Glasgow’s city centre so that everyone can enjoy a good night out in the town – and a safe one as well. This site can help you find out more about drinking, socialising and getting home safely.
Play Safe is aimed at young people aged 18 – 30 who socialise in the city centre. A wide range of media are being used to promote messages about safer socialising, healthy drinking and safer transport home – with a particular emphasis on students and employers.
A number of short alcohol awareness workshops have been arranged through Play Safe with the Glasgow Council on Alcohol and the Health At Work Health Improvement Team along with employers around Glasgow to run between mid-November 08 and mid-January 09. More info.
Within approximately ½ square mile area of Glasgow City Centre there are more than 530 licensed premises including 360 pubs and 70 night-clubs visited by an estimated 150,000 people each weekend.
